Agathi Keerai

Agathi Keerai :

This keerai has many medicinal values. Its said that it purifies the blood and removes the toxic properties from it. Also it removes the bacteria, germs or ulser in the stomach. 

Agathi  Keerai – 1 bundle
Moong Dhal – ¼ cup
Coconut scrapped – little
Turmeric powder – a pinch
Salt – for taste
Sugar – ¼ tsp

For Tempering:
Oil – 1 tsp
Mustard – ¼ tsp
Urad dhal – 1tsp
Chenna dhal – 1 tsp
Dry chillis – 2 no


Discard the stem and take the leaves alone from the agathi keerai
Wash, then Soak the moong dhal for 10 min.
Chop the leaves finely, boil it in water along with turmeric and little salt.


Boil the Moong dhal till it becomes soft. (It should not become mushy)
Heat oil and do the tempering.
Add boil agathi leaves and sauté for sometime
Add Moong dhal and sauté.
Then add very little salt and sugar to it
Finally add the coconut, sauté for a minute

Note: Do not waste the water filtered out of keerai.  This can be drunk or added with sambhar or rasam made on that day so that we will gain the full medicinal properties.
