Pepper / Milagu rasam

Pepper / Milagu rasam:

This rasam is very good for health. It helps to relieve from cold faster.


Milagu / Pepper – 2 tsp
Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
Garlic – 3 to 4 cloves
Red chilli -1
Tamrind – small lemon sized
Curry leaves – few
Salt – to taste

For tempering:

Oil– 1 tsp
Asafoetida / hing – ½ tsp
Curry leaves – few
Mustard seeds – ½ tsp


Soak the tamarind in warm water for some tome.
Crush pepper, cumin seeds, with a pestle first to a coarse / fine powder. Then add garlic and crush it too.
Extract the tamarind juice and discard the pulp.


In a kadai add oil, when hot add the tempering.
When mustard splutters, add the tamarind juice and boil it till raw smell disappears.
Now add the crushed powder and turn off the stove after one boil.

Pepper rasam is ready. You can increase or decrease the quantity of pepper as per your taste.

It goes well with steamed rice or can be eaten separately as soup. Bye for nowJ
