Samiya / Vermicelli Upma


Samiya / Vermicelli Upma:



Ingredients:

Samiya – 1 cup
Onion - 1
Green chil­li – 1
Oil – 1 tsp
Ghee – 2 tsp
Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
Curry leaves - few
Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
Urad dhal – 1 tsp
Chana dhal – 1 tsp
Salt - for taste
Water – 1 ½ cup (sometimes 2 cup)

Preparation:

Add 1 tsp of ghee and fry the samiya till golden brown and set aside.
Chop onion into fine pieces.
Slit green chilli into two.

Method:

In a kadai add ghee and oil, when hot add mustard seeds.
When mustard splutters add chana dhal, urad dhal, cumin seeds, curry leaves and sauté till it turns brown.
Now add the chopped onions and sauté.  
Fry until onion is pink. Add green chilli and sauté for 2 minutes.
Now add water and bring it to boil.
Add the salt and roasted samiya and cook in medium flame till water is absorbed.

Variation:

You can add cooked vegetables like green peas, carrot, beans etc.

Serve it hot with chutney or sugarJ See you in another recipe!
