Oma Podi / Sev

Oma Podi / Sev:


Besan flour / Kadalai Maavu – 4 cups
Rice flour – 2 cups
Butter / Dalda – 50 gms
Ajwain / Bishop weed / Omam  - 2 tsp
Asafotedia / Hing – ½ tsp
Chilli powder - 2 tsp
Salt – to taste
Oil – to deep fry

Soak Ajwain / Omam in little hot water for 2 hours. 
Now grind soaked Ajwain / Omam in a mixie.
Filter the water using a strainer and save it.

In a wide vessel take basin flour, rice flour, chilli powder, salt, Asafotedia and mix well till its nicely incorporated.
Now add butter / dalda and mix well.
Add the Ajwain / Omam water and knead it to a soft dough.
In a deep pan, heat oil. Keep the flame in medium.
Take the murukku maker( sev maker) and fix the sev / omapodi plate on it. Greese it with little oil.
Take a handful of mixture and place it in the murukku maker.
Press it in the hot oil in a circular motion till the mixture gets over.
Wait for some time and allow it to cook.
Flip it gently to other side. Wait till it turns to golden color.
Take it out and drain it in a tissue paper. Allow it to cool.

Oma Podi / Sev is ready J
