Rava Pongal

Rava Pongal:


Fine Rava / Sooji – 1 cup
Moong dhal – 1/3 cup
Water – 2 cups.
Ginger – 1 ½ inch piece
Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
Black pepper- 1 tsp
Ghee – ¼ cup
Cashews –few
Curry leaves - few
Salt – to taste


Cook moong dhal in pressure cooker. It should be soft and mushy.
Roast rava in 1 tsp of ghee till its hot.
Chop ginger into fine pieces.
Crush pepper and cumin seeds with a pestle coarsely.


In heavy bottom pan heat ghee, add chopped ginger, crushed pepper and cumin seeds, curry leaves and cashews. Sauté it for 2 minutes.
Add 2 cups water to it, salt and let it boil.
Simmer the flame, add rava to it and keep stirring it in order to avoid lumps.
After rava gets cooked, add cooked moong dhal and wait till water evaporates.

Serve it with coconut chutney/ tomato chutney or hot sambhar.
