Lauki / Doodhi / Bottle gourd / Sorakai Halwa


Lauki / Doodhi / Bottle gourd / Sorakai Halwa:

Bottle gourd is good for health. My hubby likes bottle gourd a lot, so I just tried a sweet recipe out of this. Believe me, though my hubby does not like sweet, this halwa finished off in no time.  As I have already shared the health benefits let me go into the details of the recipe now….



Ingredients:

Bottle gourd / Lauki  / Sorakai – 1 med sized
Milk – 1 lit
Sugar –  1 ½ cups
Ghee – 3 tsp
Cardamom Powder – ½ tsp
Cashews, Raisins - few

Preparation:

Wash and grate the bottle gourd and keep aside.
Cashews must be shred into small pieces
Boil the milk and keep aside.

Method:

In a heavy bottom sauce pan add little ghee and grated bottle gourd and keep stirring in medium flame until its cooked well.
Add the boiled milk to it and simmer the stove.
For every 5 minutes keep stirring it and repeat this till the mixture becomes more condensed.
Add sugar and mix well. Cook till sugar is properly dissolved and milk is evaporated.
Add powder cardamom and stir it.
Finally in another pan add little ghee, fry cashew and raisins and add it to halwa.

Sorakai / Lauki / Bottle gourd / Doodhi halwa is ready to be served. See you soon in another recipe J
