Panakam / Panagam


Panakam / Panagam:

Panakam is a Sanskrit word that means sweet drink. This is usually done on Shri Rama Navami that falls on 9th day of Chitirai Month. Panakam is done with jaggery, dry ginger (Sukku), cardamom and pepper. It is the main Neivedyam at all homes and temple on Rama Navami.



Ingredients:

Jaggery – ¼ cup
Water – 2 cups
Dry ginger powder / Sukku Podi – ½ tsp
Cardomom (crushed) –  2
Peppercorns (crushed) – ½ tsp

Method:


Dissolve the jaggery in water, let the water to boil and filter it to remove any impurities present in it.
Add dry ginger powder, peppercorns, cardamom powder to it and mix well.

Panakam is ready for neivedyam. Serve it chill.
